A recent Delhi High Court case shows how quickly the situation can change.
In Soumya Verma v. State (NCT of Delhi), W.P.(CRL) 1681/2026, decided on 10 June 2026, the marriage had taken place in 2021 and the couple had one child.
After matrimonial differences, they started living separately.
On the wife’s complaint, FIR No. 0010/2026 was registered at PS CAW Cell, Nanakpura under Sections 498A/406/34 IPC and Sections 85/316(2)/3(5) BNS.
But here comes the important NRI husband angle.
Both husband and wife were working as Chefs in Dubai.
During the Delhi High Court proceedings, both appeared through Video Conferencing. They informed the Court that the dispute had been amicably resolved and that they intended to resume their matrimonial life in Dubai.
The Delhi High Court consequently quashed the FIR and the proceedings arising from it, on the circumstances recorded in the case.
